Triathletes head to England
Manchester, England, yesterday for the fourth annual World Triathlon Championships which begins on Sunday.
Team manager Patty Petty -- who will be attending her third World Championships -- will be joined by George Sutherland, Jeremy Ball, Trevor Todd, Simon Farmer, Andrew Doble, Brian Peck and Steve Donnelly. Participants were selected after a qualifying event at the National Championships last July.
More than 1,000 of the world's top elite triathletes will be going up against the challenging Olympic distance course, which consists of a 1.5-kilometre swim in a fresh water reservoir in the West Pennines followed by a 40-kilometre bike ride through moorland roads, with a fast sweep through Bolton and finishing in Manchester.
The last discipline is a two-lap 10-K run in the centre of Manchester.
