St. George's Town Crier Richard Elsom placed eighth in the International Town Competition in London, England.

Twenty-six Town Criers from around the world took part in the July 25 and July 26 contest.

"The event consisted of three cries, each one different,'' he recalled.

"Each Town Crier was judged on their presentation, enunciation and voice volume.'' St. George's Mayor Henry Hayward praised Mr. Elsom's accomplishments.

"The Corporation and Town of St. George are proud of the Town Crier's accomplishments,'' said Mr. Hayward. "In keeping with the development of the St. George's Town Heritage Plan, our participation in these types of events is important.''
