Derby field expected to top 400
Derby and organisers are hoping that late entries will push that number beyond 400.
Deadline for last-minute registration for the Island's premier road running event is tomorrow at 5 p.m. and forms can be obtained at the Sportseller in Washington Mall, Pro Shop on Reid Street and International Sports Shop on Bermudiana Road.
Defending men's champion Brett Forgesson has confirmed he will compete in the 13.3 mile race but will face some stiff opposition from Kavin Smith, who holds the course record of one hour, 11 minutes and 27 seconds.
Sandra Mewett, champion in the women's division last year, will also be back to defend her crown.
Besides Mewett, women's entrants include Jennifer Fisher, enjoying one of her best year's ever, and Maria Conroy Haydon.
Race numbers will be issued on Friday and Saturday at Devonshire Rec.
"Quite a few people come in and think they can be a late entry on those days and that is not so,'' reminded race secretary Richard Tucker yesterday.
Tucker also said that runners would not be able to pick up their numbers on the day of the race.
