Well done, children January 10, 2001

I would, on behalf of the members of Childwatch, appreciate the opportunity to thank all those children who took time to enter the inaugural "write a letter to their father at Christmas'' contest.

The event was a great success, so much so that extra prizes were awarded, certainly the contents of the letters proved how important to a child meaningful interaction with their father is, and to that end our group is committed to having children enjoy both parents to an equal degree, and thereby benefiting during the important years of being raised. We thank the schools and after school programmes around the Island for their participation.

Mr. Editor, we in Bermuda are not foreign to the concept of giving, however, we at Childwatch wish to thank the sponsors of our event not only for giving, and bringing joy, but for the Christmas way in which Barritt's, The Phoenix Stores, Four Star Pizza and Mailboxes Unlimited gave.

EDDIE FISHER President of Childwatch Disgusting airport toilets January 11, 2001 Dear Sir, I would like to bring to the attention of the public and the powers-that-be at the Bermuda International Airport something which I find absolutely disgusting.

I have been to the airport over the last four weeks, picking up my children for the holidays and dropping them off for their respective trips back to school. Each time I have used the public toilet located by the British Airways/Air Canada departure lounge. Each cubicle partition starting from the back wall to approximately three quarters of the way toward the front of the cubicle is a very thick growth of mildew on old/new splattered urine. On the door as you leave the bathroom is the check list which indicates that the bathroom has been inspected and is clean!!! Just think what kind of impression this leaves with our tourists when they go in and use this facility. And, if this bathroom is in this condition then I can only assume that the others at the airport are also in a similar condition.

There is more to cleaning a bathroom than brushing and wiping the toilets. I hope that next time I am at our airport either picking up or dropping off or even travelling myself and I use this toilet facility I will find that it has been completely cleaned up and is kept in that manner.

DEBORAH HOLLIS Paget Tag day thank you January 6, 2001 Dear Sir, The Sunshine League Children's Home would like to extend a most sincere "thank you'' to all those who assisted in any way with our annual tag days held on December 1st and 2nd, 2000.

We especially wish to thank the taggers, some of whom braved physical challenges, for making time in their busy schedules and the members of the public who responded to them so generously with contributions which exceeded $18,000.

Thank you to the managers/operators of the many businesses who permitted our taggers to use their premises, to the employers who allowed members of their staffs to tag, to the business operators/managers who, for many years, have provided refreshments for our taggers and to the staff and students of Sandys Middle School who brought in small change totalling over $415.

Our very special thanks to Mrs. Joan White, who with a few faithful friends, has counted and been responsible for the banking of the Friday collection.

May you all be blessed and prosper during the ensuing year.
