Island prepares for UK e-commerce conference
Bermuda will be selling itself as an offshore e-commerce and financial services destination at a conference in London at the end of this month.
Minister of Telecommunications and E-commerce Renee Webb will be joined by Appleby, Spurling and Kempe partner Warren Cabral, Deloitte and Touche consulting director Tim Hulse and HedgeWorld founder and president Johann Wong at the Millennium Conference on E-commerce and Offshore Financial Services at the Dorchester Hotel on February 28 and 29.
The conference, which is being sponsored by offshore consultancy experts IOM, will also feature representatives from Jersey, Guernsey, Gibraltar, Ireland, Isle of Man and the British Virgin Islands.
An advertisement for the conference notes that its aim is to show participants what different jurisdictions are doing to create supportive environments for e-business and how they can become players in the new market place.
Comparisons between offshore centres' regulatory, legal and fiscal environments will be offered in a bid to reveal: how to take advantage of these environments to boost business growth; which are the best offshore centres; what can be learned from existing businesses; and the positive fiscal impact of offshore businesses.
Mr. Cabral will profile the Island's legal and regulatory e-commerce environment and take part in a panel discussion featuring representatives from Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Dublin. Mr. Hulse will fill the same role in regards to the Island's fiscal environment and on his panel he will be joined by representatives from Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, the BVIs and Gibraltar.
Presenting a case study for an existing business will be Mr. Wong. The ad further notes: "E-commerce is thriving. Attitudes to business are being transformed by the internet and by e-commerce.
