Fischbacher buys Wharf Tavern
Austrian restaurateur who has recently made his name in his small Hamilton eatery.
The Wharf Tavern, located at the west end of Somer's Wharf, has been purchased by Gunter Fischbacher, the manger of "Fisch's Place'' at the Mariner's Club, Hamilton.
The tavern had been managed by Sandra Lilley for over a year, but the premises were closed down and last week a sign went up stating they had been bought by Mr. Fischbacher and would be opening under new management shortly.
Mr. Fischbacher yesterday confirmed he had bought the place, but was reluctant to discuss details of the transaction. "It is true, but don't write about it.
I will invite you when it opens,'' said Mr. Fischbacher from his restaurant in Richmond Road in Hamilton.
Austrian-born Mr. Fischbacher has acquired a reputation as an excellent restaurateur over the last year since he opened his nautical-themed Hamilton restaurant.
The eatery, which also has a bar, has been an undisputed success with international cuisine, relaxed atmosphere and cheerful staff.
The popular Wharf Tavern, which has a capacity for 200 and is one of only three water-side eating places in St. George's, is believed to be opening in time for this year's season.
