Gonsalves, who is retiring after almost 32 years as a firefighter.Capt. Gonsalves joined the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Brigade in September, 1958 and became a member of the paid staff in January, 1960.

Capt. Gonsalves joined the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Brigade in September, 1958 and became a member of the paid staff in January, 1960.
In 1970, Assistant Engineer Gonsalves was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
He became a Captain in 1972 after attending a three-month course at the Fire Service Staff College in Surrey, England.
Capt. Gonsalves was awarded the Corporation of Hamilton Exemplary Service Medal in 1973, and was awarded the Colonial Fire Brigade Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and Clasps after 30 years service.
