Sub-station still planned

crime-ridden areas are still alive with the Police Commissioner making another appeal for office space yesterday.

Mr. Jean-Jacques Lemay said he believed it made sense for Police to open a small station in Court Street, North Hamilton, well before the new Police headquarters opens nearby.

The Royal Gazette reported last year how Mr. Lemay wanted a Police presence on Court Street, where members of the public could drop in.

Ideally, it would be small and on the ground level, making it convenient to both local residents and businesses.

Yesterday Mr. Lemay said his hopes of seeing the sub-station come to fruition were still very much alive.

And he said the officer who had been asked to champion the sub-station initiative was due to report back to him at any time.

The Commissioner said: "I am very committed to this initiative. And I want to see it sooner rather than later.

"Since we are going to be occupying a building on the corner of Court Street and Victoria Street, we should establish a presence now.

"One thing we are looking for, if someone has not come forward so far and has a building available, is a lower level building.

Anyone with suitable accommodation should call Mr. Lemay at Police headquarters on 295-0011.
