he had not heard his name called on a "missed'' court date.

Joseph Francis Moniz was scheduled to appear on October 6 in Plea Court, but he said his name never came up.

"I was in court with someone else and my name wasn't called,'' he said.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis replied that he had written down that he had called Moniz's name in court that day.

Moniz pleaded guilty to the charge of wilful obstruction.

Inspector Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said Moniz had been on the back of a motorcycle on Cook's Hill, Sandys Parish, at 12:40 in the afternoon on April 14, when the driver of the motorcycle was stopped by a Police patrol.

When the Police told the driver he was to be arrested, he handed several envelopes to Moniz, who then handed them to a passer-by, said Insp.Duffy.

Moniz was arrested for obstruction and taken to Somerset Police Station.

Mr. Francis imposed a fine of $250.

Frank Francis Smith, 34, was seen by a Police patrol on Washington Street, driving along the wrong carriageway without lights, shortly before midnight on November 16, said Inspector Peter Duffy, prosecuting.

When Smith was pulled over, the Police officers noticed there was a dent on his fender and that his chin was bleeding, said Insp. Duffy. The report also stated that Smith's speech was slurred and his breath smelled of alcohol.

Smith was then arrested, but refused to give samples of his breath for the Police, said Insp. Duffy.

"He demanded to be taken to the hospital to treat his injuries,'' Insp. Duffy continued, but hospital staff were unable to treat him, because of the way he was behaving.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Smith $450 and imposed a 12-month driving disqualification.

MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO DRUNK DRIVING CTS Man pleads guilty to drunk driving A 43-year-old Pembroke man was fined $400 in Magistrates' Court for impaired driving.

William H. Richardson of Stowe Court, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Prosecuting, Insp. Peter Duffy told the court that after being spotted by Police on Angle Street on September 30 at 8.15 p.m., Richardson led them on a chase through various streets in Hamilton.

"He finally stopped and after he got off his bike he fell on the ground between his bike and a motorcar,'' Insp. Duffy said.

He added Police noticed Richardson's breath smelled heavily of alcohol and when asked if he had been drinking Richardson admitted that he had.

A breath test showed that Richardson had 200 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis also disqualified Richardson from all vehicles for 12 months.
