status of women in Bermuda, The Royal Gazette has learned.

Minister of Delegated Affairs and Women's Issues Lynda Milligan-Whyte is expected to make the announcement at a news conference tomorrow.

At that time, the terms of reference of the new task force will be spelled out and the other members named. The Task Force on the Status of Women is expected to have representatives from a large number of Bermuda groups relevant to women.

Sen. Milligan-Whyte refused to comment yesterday on her choice of chairman, but sources said it was Mrs. Young.

The former nurse will add the task force to a lengthy resume of public service.

A past chairman of the Women's Advisory Council, Mrs. Young is chairman of the Board of Education and a commissioner on the Human Rights Commission.

She has also been active with King Edward VII Memorial Hospital as director of volunteer services and chairman of the patient care committee.

First announced in the November Throne Speech, the task force is to have "broad community representation'' and will "review and assess the status of women in Bermuda and recommend legislation to give protection to women''.

Sen. Milligan-Whyte has said the problem of sexual assaults against women was one of the issues the task force would examine. It would look at both prevention and court sentencing, she said.
