Car park gets off to good start
its first week of operation.
On the first day, last Wednesday, the ground floor was full before 9 a.m. and throughout the week both the ground floor and the second floor were used.
For the first few days there was no fee. With the $2.50 daily fee being implemented at the beginning of this week, the number of cars using the car park dropped slightly, officials said.
Corporation of Hamilton Secretary Mr. Roger Sherratt said the Corporation was very pleased with how things are going.
"The traffic is running smoothly and there have been no problems with congestion,'' Mr. Sherratt said. "The traffic flow within the car park is also going well.'' To accommodate Friday night shopping, the car park will be opened until 10.30 on Friday evenings.
Mr. Sherratt said the car park gives the Corporation flexibility to adjust parking regulations in Hamilton.
