collecting points towards a junior world ranking at the Aruba International Junior Tournament.

DeSilva won her opening match on Monday when she beat Lisa Ferrari of Venezuela 6-3, 6-4, before going down to Jamaica's Alikis Ponton 6-2, 7-6 yesterday in a second round match that was played in windy conditions.

Victory would have seen DeSilva collect points towards the ranking, which was the aim of Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association when the decision was made to send her and 17-year-old Bean to the tournament.

DeSilva, 16, was competing against 63 other girls. Initially there was supposed to be a qualifier but all 64 players entered the main draw.

Bean has also been eliminated from qualification in his division where there were some 93 players. He won his first match on Sunday against South American Elio Diaz 6-2, 6-0 before losing his against Venezuela's Alejandro Nery 6-0, 6-0 yesterday.

Zane DeSilva, Zarah's father, said the quality of play was extremely high.

"There are five levels of competition and originally it was supposed to be a number five level, but because of the quality the ITF upgraded it to a level four,'' explained DeSilva. "The level of competition is actually pretty high.

I saw some youngsters who would give Ricky Mallory a good game.'' Today, DeSilva will team up with Asha Jaja of Jamaica in the doubles where they will play Judith Diaz of Venezuela and Paolo Gamboa of Equador.
