A crew member of the Norwegian Majesty appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday on several charges relating to the haul. A second man was arrested but later released without charge.
Police officers and Customs officials were involved in the swoop, which netted 6.5 pounds of cannabis and half a pound of cocaine -- and came as US drug enforcers announced they had broken a major drugs ring between New York and Bermuda.
Operation Bermuda Triangle, as reported in The Royal Gazette yesterday, involved the seizure of $250,000 of drugs.
In the separate haul aboard the Norwegian Majesty , a Police statement said careful observations from within the vessel had led to the swoop while it was berthed in St. George's last Wednesday.
Officers were alerted and made the arrests, seizing the drugs, which had a combined street value of $200,000.
Yesterday, Dwight Wright, 28, of Spanish Town, Jamaica, appeared in court, charged with importation of cocaine and cannabis, possession of cocaine and cannabis, and handling cocaine and cannabis.
The Norwegian Majesty crew member was remanded in custody until a further court appearance tomorrow.
