Tumbridge fourth
performance at the Compiegne International Three Star event in France over the weekend.
Tumbridge, riding Bermuda Option, showed remarkable consistency throughout the three day event, vaulting two places on the last day to place fourth.
This while competing among a world class field of 38, including top riders from New Zealand, France and Great Britain.
"I was really psyched,'' said Tumbridge. "It's a good feeling when you're in a field containing the best in the world and are able to come out and do well.
"Going into the last day -- show jumping -- I was just saying `please God let me go clean'.
"It was a big course, because the French like to go big and the horse was tired, but we made it through fine.'' On Friday Tumbridge led off the dressage portion -- traditionally a bad spot as the judges tend to be harsh early on. However, she emerged in sixth place much to her surprise.
She erred the next day in picking up 11 seconds in time penalties during the cross-country phase, which had Tumbridge worried.
"You can't have time penalties in Europe because the standard is so high and you could quickly find yourself out of the running,'' she said.
At present the 1992 Olympian is on the Island for three weeks before resuming training in Gloucestershire, England in preparation for various upcoming events.
Foremost on the agenda, in terms of major competitions, is a meet at Burghley, which involves a four star competition on a similar level to that of the Olympics.
Tumbridge is building toward next year's World Equestrian Games scheduled for Holland in July and is optimistic about reaching that goal.
