Spreading their wings -- CD&P legal eagles continue to expand
spread their wings.
Bursting out of their offices around the world, the company is expanding rapidly.
Now the largest offshore law firm in the world CD&P, while remaining headquartered in Bermuda, has branched out internationally.
And that growth, unlike growth in US and European companies, has come "organically'', the company said.
"Offshore law firms are generally small in comparison to the US and European giants, many of whom have grown in recent years through mergers,'' a company spokesperson said. "Conyers Dill and Pearman has preferred to grow organically in response to a record number of transactions both in traditional and e-commerce business.'' Since January alone, the Bermuda office have added ten new lawyers to their team. There were also two more hired in the Hong Kong office, one in London and three in the British Virgin Islands.
CD&P's affiliated companies Codan Trust and Codan Services also expanded during the period taking on "a number of new managers''.
And the various offices are needing more room to facilitate the expansion.
Bermudian law firm continues to expand The Hong Kong office has moved to larger premises in One Exchange Square and the BVI offices are taking on additional space.
In Bermuda CD&P have taken over the third floor of Richmond House to supplement their main offices at Clarendon House. But a spokesperson for the company pointed out that the additional staffing was so great that the number of employees in the new Richmond House location was almost as high as at its headquarters.
John Collis, a senior partner with the company, said: "We are proud to think that an island as small as Bermuda can produce a truly international law firm.
"Our expansion is in large part due to an increasing demand for offshore legal advice around the world.
"We have positioned ourselves in key jurisdictions in order to accommodate clients operating in different time zones. However, being in the right place at the right time is not enough: You have to deliver a quality service and this means recruiting the brightest and the best to handle the work.''
