Seasonal slowdown takes steam out of cruise ships
The cruise ship season began winding down this week with passenger numbers falling after the Labour Day weekend.
Captain John Moore of Meyer Agencies said: "We see this every year, kids go back to school so the family vacations are finished.'' The Norwegian Majesty arrived in St. George's at noon yesterday with 1,486 passengers.
The Zenith also arrived in Hamilton on Monday and will take its 1,392 passengers to St. George's today.
Horizon arrived in St. George's on Monday with 1,402 passengers and was set to hit Hamilton later in the week.
Meyer's other cruise ship the Crown Dynasty is set to berth in Dockyard on Friday - last week she brought 624 passengers for her weekend stay.
The freighter Somers Isles arrived yesterday carrying 97 containers and 16 refrigerated containers.
Among the loose cargo were five boats, two fuel storage tanks, two trucks, two trash dumpsters and 10 packages of various building materials.
The ship will sail to Florida on Thursday the same day The Bermuda Islander is due in with its load of 81 containers and 14 refrigerated containers.
The Nordic Empress came in to Dockyard yesterday with 1,697 passengers and will head to Hamilton tomorrow and depart the Island on Friday.
The Pacific Princess berthed in St. George's yesterday and will arrive in Hamilton tomorrow morning and then hit Dockyard on Thursday before heading out a day later with its 457 passengers.
Staging equipment for the jazz festival was included in 10 trailers brought in by the Oleander on Sunday.
Also brought in were 38 cars, 37 refrigerated containers and 140 dry containers.
