West Pembroke lead the way as youngsters have chance to shine

West Pembroke School reaffirmed their status as a nurturing ground for young athletes, producing three out of the six individual winners at yesterday's Primary Inter-School Track and Field Finals held at the National Stadium.

Jahmel Blakeney, Tiffany Scraders and sister Tamara Scraders led the way for the Pembroke school, winning the Boys under 10, Girls Under 11 and Girls Under 10 respectively.

The younger Scraders (Tamara) was particularly impressive as she set a new record in the 800 metres finishing in 2:42.93 to shave almost two seconds off the old record of 2:44.9. This, combined with a second place finish in the 200 metres and a third in the 100, gave her nine points and the age group title.

Gina Cann of West End was a cut above the rest in the Girls Over 11 division, triumphing in three events -- the 100, 200 and the long jump.

Other age group winners included Elliot's Lashun Dill in the Boys Over 11 category and Kaiya Darrell winning the Boys Under 11 under the banner of Francis Patton.

SUPREME EFFORT -- Paget Primary School's Aldey Jones uses all his might to win the Boy's Over 11 shot put with a distance of 9.76 metres.
