They raised more than $3,000 for the international children's charity, World Vision. The money will help thousands of Indians rebuild their homes and lives after devastating earthquakes in October.

Organisers of the March 6 event were Bermuda Police, while sponsors were Mutual Risk Management Ltd.

"We had 197 runners, which, combined with 53 walkers and 32 children makes this our best participation yet,'' said race director P.c. Simon Groves.

He added the new walkers' and children's categories made for a family atmosphere.

World Vision's Bermuda coordinator Mrs. Sheena Notter received a cheque at a ceremony at Mutual Risk Management on Monday.

She told how impressed she was with the children who took part in the race.

"It was marvellous to see them out in support of less fortunate children in other parts of the world.'' Mutual Risk Management vice president and chief financial officer Mr. Jim Kelly said money raised was nearly triple that of previous years.

"It was really gratifying to see this kind of involvement from the community -- including the 18 local businesses who donated prizes for the event.''
