Thousands went to circus
June 25 and 30.
And according to David Sullivan of Sandys Rotary club -- which sponsored the event -- the circus had achieved both goals of providing first class family entertainment and raising money for local charities.
Although total profits have not yet been tallied, Mr. Sullivan said he was sure the circus had raised more than the $500,000 production cost.
He based his assumptions on the profits made during past fundraising ventures such as the last circus, the carnival, and the ice show.
Mr. Sullivan said the Rotary also hoped to give the surplus money to charities within the next few months.
Some of the money will also be used for educational grants, he added.
"Believe it or not some of the money from the 1988 circus is still in circulation,'' he said. "Scholarships are given every year to student entering Bermuda College.'' Mr. Sullivan said Sandys Rotary did not intend to do any international scale projects for a couple of years and will be concentrating on local projects.
"It takes a lot of time and energy to produce something like this (the circus),'' he said. "We're going to take it easy on our membership and on Bermuda as a whole.''
