Motorists steer clear of drink

The five-day period between Friday, December 29 and Tuesday January 2 (inclusive) saw five people stopped on suspicion of impaired driving.

The five-day period between Friday, December 29 and Tuesday January 2 (inclusive) saw five people stopped on suspicion of impaired driving.

Four failed the breathalyser test and were subsequently charged.

There was one accident that occurred just before 5 a.m. on New Year's Day just east of Cottage Hill road in Hamilton Parish. The hit-and-run involved a parked van and a private car, driven by a 22-year-old man who was overtaking another car when it collided with the parked van.

The driver left the scene but was subsequently arrested by Police at a Hamilton Parish house.

He was taken to Hamilton Police station where he failed a breath test and was subsequently searched and detained.
