Freezing winds cause big chill
today.
Last night, temperatures were forecast to plummet to 50 degrees with high winds sending the wind chill factor down to 37 degrees, just five above freezing.
Despite temperatures, on a couple of days, dropping below 68 degrees, average temperatures so far this year have been in the 70s.
And forecasters at the US Naval Air Station, in St. George's, predicted a stormy morning with the only respite from the wind coming later this evening.
Petty Officer Michelle Vandever warned that last night would be chilly with possible thunderstorms.
She said showers would continue into tomorrow, and there is a chance they will linger longer.
Winds will drop from more than 20 knots, with gusts of 30, to between 10 and 15 knots this evening.
She said: "Things will start to improve this evening but we are in for a chilly morning.'' Petty Officer Vandever estimated that with the high winds the temperatures will appear to be around 37 to 38 degrees.
The last couple of days have meant more discounts by hoteliers and shops involved in the 68 Degrees Temperature Guarantee.
Hoteliers have paid out thousands of dollars in discounts to guests this year but say they are still pleased with the publicity the scheme is giving to the Island.
