The Shadow Minister of Human Affairs and Warwick West MP has been dogged by controversy since his constitutional right to be a Bermuda MP was called in to question.

Dr. Brown pledged allegiance to the US flag in 1990 so he could bcome a US citizen. His opponents argue that a clause in the Island's Constitution bans him from sitting in the House of Assembly because of this.

PLP officials refused to comment on the nature of today's Press conference, but it seems likely that Dr. Brown will settle the dispute one way or another.

PLP public relations officer Corey Butterfield said: "I am certain that the content of the conference will be considered of major significance to the electorate.'' Dr. Brown's opponents have called on him to get rid of his American passport or step down from the House of Assembly and could mount a legal challenge against him if he is re-elected.

They have also called on him to get rid of his American passport or step down from the House of Assembly.

Meanwhile his fellow PLP MPs have tried to have the clause which apparently bars him from holding the Warwick West seat removed from the Constitution.

The clause forbids anyone holding "allegiance, obedience or adherence'' to a foreign power from sitting in Parliament.

Dr. Brown will hold the press conference today at Alaska Hall at 2.30 p.m.

Dr. Brown is running with Cricket Board of Control president El James in Warwick West in the upcoming General Election against UBP MP Quinton Edness and Government Senator Yvette Swan.
