Report ordered for under-age driver
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis said yesterday.
Kevin W. Simpson, now 16, of Twin Lanes South, Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty to speeding at 65 kilometres per hour, driving while under the age of 16, making a false statement to Police, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
All the offences occurred on August 9 on North Shore Road in Devonshire, said Police prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy.
Shortly after midnight on that date, Police radar picked up Simpson's speeding motorcycle and he was stopped, Insp. Duffy told the court.
Simpson identified himself as Gladwin Dean, and it wasn't until a warrant was issued for that man that Police learned it was Simpson they were looking for.
Due to the warrant "Mr. Dean did appear before the court and was greatly inconvenienced and embarrassed,'' Insp. Duffy said.
Once arrested, Simpson confessed, he said. Simpson, who was only 15 at the time of the offences, is unemployed and lives with his mother.
The Senior Magistrate immediately disqualified Simpson from driving for 12 months. But in light of his age, he called for a social inquiry report before sentencing him on December 15.
