Disqualified driver banned again after
yesterday he couldn't remember the incident.
Ernest McCallan, 23, of Second Avenue, Devonshire, was fined a total of $550 and banned from driving for a further 18 months after he pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without due care and attention on November 13.
Prosecuting, Police Insp. Peter Duffy said McCallan was involved in a single-vehicle accident on Glebe Road shortly before midnight on November 13.
McCallan's car failed to negotiate a turn and struck a garden wall, Insp.
Duffy said.
The car was extensively damaged.
McCallan, who was taken to hospital with a broken jaw and facial injuries, told the court: "I don't remember what happened.'' On July 16 this year McCallan was convicted of speeding at 62 kilometres per hour, Insp. Duffy said. For that offence, he was fined $180 and disqualified from driving until next January 15.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined McCallan $350 and banned him from driving for 18 months for driving while disqualified.
For driving without due care and attention, he fined McCallan $200 and disqualified him for 18 months, concurrent to the first penalty.
