Shona sets new mark in triathlon
Ste Croix lifted another title as the Island's top two triathletes ran away to predictable wins in Sunday's Snickers Sprint Triathlon.
Over a .75 kilometre swim, 20 kilometre cycle and five kilometre run, Palmer waltzed around the course in one hour, eight minutes 23 seconds -- a staggering eight minutes in front of her nearest rival, second-placed Mary Hopkins.
It earned her a new record in the 20-29 age division, serving as the ideal warm-up for next month's World Triathlon Championships in Cancun, Mexico, where a large group of Island triathletes will compete.
De Ste Croix, who is also heading to Mexico, failed to eclipse the sprint record held by Greg Hopkins of 1:00.59, but was rarely pushed as he came home in 1:04.56, just over two minutes in front of second-placed Mark Glusing (1:07.04), who recently completed the Hawaii Ironman event.
Third overall was Eloy Castroverde in 1:07.34 followed by Jason Krupp (1:08.16) and Jeremy Ball (1:09.34), who was the first Master.
Another record to fall was that in the women's over-50 division as Peggy Couper completed the course in 1:22.46.
Linda Dillon was the first female Master in 1:25.45 while Kris Hedges won the 19 and under division in a fast 1:11.06 which placed him sixth overall.
