Landscaper fined $1,500
John Correia, of South Road, Paget, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving while disqualified, refusing to give a sample of breath, and speeding along Crow Lane in Pembroke on October 11.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said Police were conducting radar checks on Crow Lane when they clocked Correia speeding at 61 kph.
Upon stopping him, Police noticed that his eyes were glazed and his breath smelled of liquor.
Sgt. Taylor said Correira admitted to Police that he had been drinking, but refused to take a breathalyser test.
Checks on Correia's driving record showed that he was disqualified from driving cars in July for a year for driving with "excess of alcohol''.
Sgt. Taylor also said that in September 1995, Correia was disqualified for a year for impaired driving.
Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp ordered Correia to pay a $700 fine and took him off the road for three years for refusing to give a sample of breath earlier this month. She also imposed a $500 fine and an 18-month disqualification on him for driving while disqualified.
And Mrs. Mapp ordered Correia to pay a $300 fine for speeding.
