Smoking decision due today
every area of Casemates.
The meeting comes on the heels of Health Minister the Hon. Quinton Edness' opposition to the plan announced earlier this month by Prisons Commissioner Mr. Edward Dyer.
And Mr. Dyer yesterday admitted that "it may be better to stretch out'' the timeframe for imposing the ban.
The original plan was to bring Casemates in line with other Government buildings that became smoke free more than a year ago.
Mr. Dyer, who pointed out that smoking was already contrary to prison rules, earlier said he believed the ban would start in September.
But that was before last week when he received a petition signed by half of the prison's 160 inmates asking for the ban to be "slowed down'' until the move to the new prison in November.
It was also before Mr. Dyer met with all of the prison's inmates.
"As a consequence of that, myself and senior personnel at the prison will meet tomorrow.'' Mr. Edward Dyer.
