Senator to give evidence
Island and are scheduled to take the witness stand this morning at the Supreme Court sentencing of Anthony Ricardo Richardson.
The 23-year-old Pembroke man in November pleaded guilty to one count of serious sexual assault and three counts of armed robbery against Nova Scotia Senator Donald Oliver and his two guests at a home on Middle Road in Southampton last August.
Four additional charges -- including deprivation of liberty and housebreaking -- have been held back but remain on the record.
The trio are to give their version of events on the afternoon of August 12, when Richardson forced his way at knifepoint into the home of Sen. Oliver's wife, Linda Oliver, tied up the victims and sexually assaulted Sen. Oliver's female guest.
Crown Counsel Khamisi Tokunbo yesterday said the the trio would be in Court to participate in a Newton hearing -- a hearing of the facts of the case before a Supreme Court judge.
Mr. Tokunbo said the sentencing may be delayed because defence counsel Archie Warner is currently involved in the Caines murder trial, also playing out before the Supreme Court.
