PRIDE supports parent connection

have changed. It seems to be an everyday occurrence that television, radio and newspapers are reporting incidences involving drug use, domestic violence and youth behavioural issues.

Years ago the big issues in schools were chewing gum in class, running in the halls, or talking out of turn. Today, in addition to those issues, schools are dealing with truancy, the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs by our youth, illiteracy and a rise in teenage pregnancy.

Single parent households are becoming the norm. Most families have both parents working. Young people are left on their own after school hours. Young people are going to more activities. There needs to be a structure in place that will provide parents with the opportunity to network and connect with other parents in their community.

Parents need to communicate within not only their own family but with those their children are involved with. They need to be in touch with their children's school and community. They need to know what is happening and how they can stay involved and informed.

The Parent Connection involves parents who need to feel more in touch with their children's lives, their children's friends and their friends' families.

PRIDE Bermuda understands the need for parents to connect. The Parent Connection is designed to make the demanding job of parenting easier through supporting, communicating and networking with each other.

As parents, we encourage other parents to call and find out about parties and other arranged activities.

Other parents will keep us informed about our children when they are not with us.

If you have a keen interest in making a difference in the quality of life in Bermuda, PRIDE Bermuda invites the Bermuda family to become volunteers. We have year round activities for the entire family to enjoy.

If anyone is interested in doing the Parent to Parent Programme, finding out more information about how to get a parent connection going in your community or becoming a volunteer, feel free to call us for more information or make an appointment to have our programme presented.
