Retired Bank of Butterfield staff to help out `confused' customers

The Bank of Butterfield has reactivated several retired staff members during their new head office redevelopment.

To prevent confusion amid 48 weeks of renovating and moving departments, the bank appointed special ambassadors to great customers and offer assistance with directions or products.

The majority of the 19 ambassadors, hired part-time, are retired bank employees, according to a release from the bank yesterday.

"This new approach to customer service is a first for Bermuda,'' said Mr.

Colin Furr, executive vice president, banking.

"These ambassadors are a key element to our head office redevelopment and reflect the bank's ongoing commitment to customers during a potentially difficult period of transition,'' he added.

The uniformed ambassadors, who started work in January, were trained in etiquette, product knowledge and on the redevelopment project.
