Drawing on a number of cricketing terms, bowlers were, paradoxically, able to accumulate runs based on the number of pinfalls, with fours and sixes possible along with dismissal by various methods such as run outs and catches.

While St. George's produced the bigger team -- 50 bowlers to Somerset's 35 -- the rules were adjusted to focus on quality rather than quantity. The total pinfall in each of the three innings competition was divided by the number of bowlers to find the highest average.

Somerset led on first innings with captain Michael Lambe's 234 runs boosting them to a 5,688 total -- an average of 162.51 for the innings. Although St.

George's replied with 7,234 their average worked out at an inferior 148.46.

St. George's fought back in the second innings, but still trailed their opponents by an average of 3.82 runs. However, their good form continued into the third, where they notched up a total of 8,460 runs to Somerset's 5,301 -- giving them an overall winning margin of 7,671 runs or team average of 13.92.

Lambe, who finished with 660 runs, was voted Somerset's MVP, with Hilton Hayward, who amassed 602 runs, taking that accolade for the winners.
