without due care and attention.

Mother-of-three Sen. Fox, who is standing for the UBP at the General Election, was fined by Magistrate Edward King last Tuesday.

And the Cable and Wireless executive revealed last night that she asked for time to pay, saying: "I didn't have the funds at the time.'' Mrs. Fox, a candidate in the Hamilton East constituency, had been due to stand trial yesterday but her lawyer -- fellow Government Senator Larry Scott -- was away on holiday.

So her case was pushed forward and the 34-year-old pleaded guilty.

Mrs. Fox, of Abbotts Cliff, Hamilton Parish, said the charge related to a minor accident on Church Street in March last year.

And she admitted last night that she hoped her case would not make the newspaper.

"It was something that happened before I even became a Senator,'' she said.

"I pleaded guilty because I didn't want it to be publicised.

"I'm off sick at the moment and as soon as I'm back in Hamilton the fine will be paid.

"I have time to pay by the end of the month. I wasn't ordered to pay on the day. As far as I know, I have time. I intend to pay it by the end of this week.'' Sen. Fox explained that her car rolled into a van as she was driving into work at Cable and Wireless.

"It was 11 o'clock in the morning when I was driving into the gate and I was going very, very slowly,'' she said. "There were pedestrians walking across and a van was right up behind me but I rolled back.

"The P.c. who booked me basically felt that he shouldn't have had to provide me with a ticket but his Inspector said go ahead and do it anyway.

"This was before I became a Senator and it wasn't expected that it would go any further.

"I had a case that was supposed to come to the court at the end of the month but it came to the court sooner because my lawyer wasn't able to make it on the date.''
