Housing advocates plan report
supporting affordable housing, a spokeswoman said.
The People's Coalition for Affordable Housing (PCAH) and the National Tenants and Future Homeowners' Association (NTFHA) will compile a report geared toward educating the public about the current housing situation in Bermuda.
PCAH chair Rosemarie Pedro said the merger was important because "the situation seems to be getting so intense''.
Ms Pedro said she and NTFHA chair Coreen Tucker will gather information -- primarily from The Royal Gazette classified advertisements -- about the advertised costs of housing over the past five years.
She said examining the ads would provide a good indication of how much the cost of housing has increased recently.
The paper will compare the increase in the cost of housing with wage increases to determine the percentage of salaries spent on housing.
The report is expected to be completed and distributed during the Cup Match holiday.
"The report is about education. We're asking the question again, are we prepared to continue to go this way, or are we willing to make a stand and make a change?'' said Ms Pedro.
PCAH staged a protest recently where motorists who supported affordable housing were asked to put their headlights on during the course of the day.
