The assault is alleged to have happened in the early hours of Sunday at the woman's home.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said the man was now in custody. "The incident is under investigation by Central CID officers,'' he said.

He added that amendments to the Criminal Code regarding sexual offences, which came into effect on June 1, prevented him from revealing details which would help identify the man.

The woman is a civilian, P.c. Venning said.
