Police meet hostile crowd outside club
headlong into a hostile crowd outside a Front Street nightclub.
The incident started when Police moved in to break up two men fighting outside the Odyssey nightclub. One of the two punched an officer in the face and was immediately arrested.
As this was taking place a second person entered the fray to free the arrested man, resulting in another struggle which subsequently drew a vocal crowd.
Back-up was called and several persons obstructed Police as they were attempting to make arrests, resulting in one man escaping from custody.
Another offender -- when placed in a Police vehicle -- began kicking the door, damaging the door frame.
Police eventually withdrew from the area -- and the large hostile crowd -- with two men in custody. One is described as a 27-year-old Warwick man; the other a 23-year-old Pembroke man. Both were yesterday expected to make bail.
Meanwhile a 23-year-old Pembroke man reported to Police that while driving his white Hyundai car east along Front Street he was obstructed by the mob outside Odyssey.
He told Police that an unknown man approached his car and with his fist, punched the vehicle's windscreen and walked away; he also reported his power antennae was bent.
The complainant then reversed to speak with the man but was approached by two other men whom he described as "hostile''. He subsequently left the scene and later reported the matter.
The culprit is described as a dark-skinned male, approximately six feet tall with a medium build and short cropped hair. He was wearing light-coloured clothing.
