Career expo to lure the cream of the crop into public service

Government will host a career expo in December to lure "the best and brightest'' into public service.

The event, entitled "Bermuda Government -- A Job, A Career, A Future'', will be held at Number One Shed on Front Street on December 21.

Personnel from various Government departments, who are also members of a middle management development programme, will organise the event.

It will feature booths designed to showcase the career potential in each Government department.

"The expo aims to market the Bermuda Government at all levels and to attract more of the best and brightest to seek Government employment first and foremost,'' organisers said.

"In addition, the expo will provide information on job trends and skills needed as we approach the new century.'' Director of Personnel Services Mrs. Judith Hall Bean said all levels of Government provided opportunities for "much more than just a job, from the tradesmen to senior managerial level''.

"The opportunity for career advancement for the best in their respective fields is enormous,'' Mrs. Hall Bean stressed, "and one of our goals is to make those entering the job market, as well as those seeking a change in their careers, aware of the career potential that Government can offer.

She added that Government felt a responsibility to help its sponsored students make good decisions regarding their course of study.

In addition to attracting the general public, organisers said they hoped that college and university students who return home for Christmas holiday will also attend the event which will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
