revitalise their beleaguered soccer programme this season.

Horton, a former Bermuda international striker who has also had an extended career with the New York Cosmos, met with his players on Sunday and is reported to have been well received on his return at the helm of the former Island power.

Horton's role is to restore pride and dignity in the Trojans, who last season suffered the indignity of being regulated from the First Division for the first time in their illustrious history.

The humiliation not only upset club officials and players, many of whom are considering moves to new teams, but it also apparently alienated many of fans.

This influenced the club to publicly advertise for a coach for the first time rather than to appoint one from their ranks.

The performance of the team was quite a change from the 1960s when Horton and Clyde Best had them rated as the best team in the Island.

Horton replaces last season's coach, Josef Gooden, who has since signed on with Devonshire Cougars, who are newly promoted to the First Division.

"I am indeed happy to be back coaching after being away for a few seasons. I expect it to be a great challenge getting the Trojans back to the First Division right away, but it's one of the reasons I took the job. I am challenged by the challenge,'' said Horton yesterday.

"I am very optimistic. I certainly feel that with the quality of players that we have the effort will be given by each member to help us reach our goal of promotion.'' Gooden's assistant last season, Dennis Brown, has also broken ranks by moving on to coach Second Division Wolves.

Meanwhile at the opposite end of the island, St. George's Colts, rocked by the resignation of coach Herbie Bascome, will probably name his replacement this week. According to president Mansfield Smith they advertised within and have had three applications and a choice will likely be made this week. Bascome is understood to be considering an offer to coach his former team.
