Police pounced immediately when the 26-year-old went walkabout around the British Airways jet which had just landed on Thursday evening.

And they released the 26-year-old Bermudian after a night of questioning and keeping him in a cell until the next morning.

Roger Brydon, in charge of Airport security, said the man was cautioned but released without charge.

He added: "It was certainly an unusual incident. He was on a job working at the Airport, although he isn't employed by the Airport, and simply wandered up to the terminal some time around 5.30 p.m.

"We have got a lot of construction work going on in the arrivals area and he just walked straight in.

"The British Airways flight had landed and the passengers had cleared the area, so he made his way to the ramp and out onto the airfield itself.

"The Airport security police who patrol the ramp-side, or air-side of the Airport, were very quick to spot him and arrested him immediately.

"By his own admission, he was taking a break from his work. It was simply explained to him that he had breached security regulations.

"But he was not considered to be a serious security risk, he was not trying to get on the plane and a search revealed nothing worrying.

"The Police acted very promptly and it was a good reminder that there's a constant need for everybody at the Airport to take security seriously.'' AIRPORT FLY
