Hubbard rides solo to clinch Carolina victory
Jersey Navigators, storming to an impressive win on Sunday in the `Hell of the North' circuit race in Clemson, North Carolina.
On a demanding, hilly course over 100 miles, often through torrential rain, Hubbard broke away from the field of 100 riders just over halfway through the race and worked tirelessly for a solo victory.
He finished six minutes ahead of team-mate Skip Spangenburg who managed to hold off the chasing pack by 30 seconds.
A delighted Hubbard said afterwards: "I took the opportunity to break away because I was feeling really strong on the hills. The rain was torrential and I just built on my lead and kept concentrating.
"It was a great feeling to win. My form is really coming on after a steady build-up in the early season, so I will be looking for some good results now as the season progresses. The Commonwealth Games are a major priority for me.'' Hubbard is in action again next week as the team moves to Atlanta for the Atlanta Grand Prix.
The top Bermudian cyclist will return home with his new team for the Conyers, Dill and Pearman Grand Prix in Bermuda early next month before the Navigators travel to Spain to start their European race programme.
