The advice came on the heels of three weekend burglaries.

Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said Police were urging the Island's hoteliers to warn guests about the potential dangers of break-ins.

She said the majority of burglaries at guest properties occurred when visitors left their windows and doors unlocked.

A New Jersey couple staying at the Coral Beach Tennis Club fell prey to thieves.

After a Sunday afternoon nap, the wife -- while dressing for dinner -- discovered a pouch containing her jewellery was missing.

Mrs. James Barnett said the pouch had been left on a desk in the living room while the pair slept.

Several expensive pieces of jewellery were stolen, including an initialised gold engagement ring and wedding ring set, a lapis and gold necklace, a pair of emerald and diamond earrings and a gold hummingbird diamond and emerald pin.

On Saturday evening a Norwegian couple at the Reefs Hotel was also targeted by thieves.

Around 11.30 p.m. the husband opened the sliding glass door of their room and went onto the balcony.

The next morning, the wife discovered the wallet outside on the table balcony, minus "a significant'' amount of cash.

A New Jersey visitor at the Rosemont Guest House also had his wallet stolen early Sunday morning.
