Boulevard firm favourites for fourth FA Cup triumph

Boulevard are installed as the FA Cup favourites after a second straight win over Devonshire Colts at the semi-final stage.

Last March, the Blazers beat Colts 4-2 after extra-time to reach the final and Sunday's semi-final win was even more impressive, as they hammered Colts 5-3 after going 2-0 up in the first eight minutes.

But the defending cup champions know they face a tricky match at the National Stadium on April 13 when they try to prevent a Second Division side from lifting the prestigious trophy for the first time.

The match will mark Boulevard's fourth appearance in the final -- all since 1991 -- and they have a proud record of having won all three.

This weekend they'll know who their opponents will be when unbeaten Second Division leaders Hotels and another promotion chasing team, Wolves, play their semi-final tie at Bernard Park.

Dwight Warren, Boulevard's four-goal hero against Colts, likes the prospect of a Boulevard-Wolves final because of the rivalry that exists between the teams.

"I would prefer Wolves but we don't want to take any team for granted,'' said Warren who will be in Jamaica this weekend with the Bermuda team.

Boulevard are bidding to become the second straight team to win back-to-back FA Cups, following Vasco's success in 1994 and '95 when they beat Dandy Town and Devonshire Cougars in the final.

But they also face the threat of being the first First Division team to lose to a Second Division side in the final. Boulevard coach Donnie Hill has been around football long enough to know that nothing can be taken for granted.

After all, who would have expected Hotels and Wolves to shock First Division opposition in replays in the same week, when Hotels got by North Village and Wolves stopped Vasco.

Hotels are still the only team in the First or Second Divisions not to have lost a league or cup game this season, a significant achievement for a team that just returned to the league after bowing out as a First Division team at the end of the 1992-93 season.

They could wrap up the first promotion spot in the next couple of games and with a semi-final meeting against Prospect still to come in the Shield next month there is a chance they could land three trophies on their way back to the top flight.

"Hotels have good momentum going and both of them are looking to come up into the First Division, so this will be a test for them,'' said Hill on the weekend.

"They've beaten First Division teams to get there so we've got to play hard and stay focused.''
