Samaritan Scott praised for honesty

A local woman was thanking her lucky stars and lawyer Lawrence Scott recently after she lost $2,000 in cash and he found it in the street and returned it to her.

Department of Immigration employee Suzette Butterfield Lewis called The Royal Gazette to single Mr. Scott out for praise because of his kind act.

"I thought it was very honourable of him and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank him publicly,'' she said.

"It proves there are still good people out there.'' She was carrying the money in her bank book after withdrawing it from the Bank of Bermuda when she lost it on October 5.

After she discovered it was missing she contacted the Police who tried to help her recover her steps but to no avail.

Later that same day the Bank of Bermuda called her to tell her that Mr. Scott had turned it in, much to her relief.

It turned out that Mr. Scott found the bank book containing the cash on Church Street near Global House.

Ms Butterfield Lewis noted that the loss threw her into a tailspin. Her family were dealing with a problem and she had been collecting the money from family members so she could deal with the situation.

Mr. Scott said he had just left the bank himself when he came across the bank book.

He said he picked it up and took it back to the bank and later heard from Ms Butterfield Lewis who thanked him.

"I'm just made that way,'' he said. "I'm glad I was able to help.'' You're my hero: Suzette Butterfield Lewis thanks lawyer Lawrence Scott outside his office on Reid Street yesterday after he returned her bank book containing $2,000 in cash.
