School Libraries open to public
given access to school libraries for the first time.
The library facilities at Sandys Secondary School and St. George's Secondary School are now open to the public for quiet studying, reading and borrowing of books.
The opening is part of Government's Community Education Development Programme, and was announced by Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs, the Hon.
Leonard Gibbons.
Additional fiction titles will be added to the libraries to meet the anticipated interest of adults.
And the availability of reference books during evening hours is hoped to be beneficial to secondary school students with their homework.
Mr. Gibbons said: "The Community Education Programme is a joint project of the Ministries of Community and Cultural Affairs and the Department of Education.
"This is a combined effort to make maximum use of a very valuable community resource. It is also part of an ongoing development plan to make library services more accessible and available to people in their neighbourhoods.
"I invite the participants in the evening programme, as well as residents in the areas of the two schools to take advantage of this new community service.'' The Hon. Leonard Gibbons.
