Walk for breast cancer was a great success
Bermudians came out in droves last week to help raise funds for breast cancer.
Dorothy Swan of The Bermuda TB Cancer and Health Association declared last Wednesday's Stepping Out for Breast Cancer Walk a rousing success.
She estimated that 450 people participated in the walk, including the Opposition Leader Jennifer Smith, children and visitors.
"We raised $40,000,'' Ms Swan revealed. "And we are still waiting for the corporate pledges to come in.
"It was a really good night and a great crowd. Better than last year. We even ran out of the 500 T-shirts we printed up.'' October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the funds raised will go towards educating nurses and other medical personnel so they in turn will be able to go out and educate the community.
*** Locals should not put away their walking shoes just yet since another charity walk is just around the corner.
The Family Learning Centre will host their Third Annual Early Bird 10K Walk on Saturday October 24 to raise funds for the Centre.
The walk, which begins at 8.30 a.m., will feature great incentives -- like sweat shirts and caps -- for participants who raise more than $75.
And there will be a complementary continental breakfast for all walkers upon their return to Botanical Gardens.
Walkers will even have a chance to win one of ten unique prizes which include hotel weekends, and dinner packages.
The Family Learning Centre aims to strengthen children and their families through prevention, education and counselling services in partnership with parents and the community.
