Local firm caught in name confusion
sharing the same name should be all but over, according to Bloomberg business news service.
Investment firm American Resource Corporation Ltd., with a physical presence in Hamilton, has been registered here since 1981 and has been listed on the Montreal Stock Exchange for about 15 years. A Nevada company, American Resource Corp. Inc., set up recently, is a gold and copper exploration, development and mining company with properties in Argentina, Nevada and Uruguay.
"I've had (incorrect) inquiries from brokers in the States tracing the security they were trying to buy or sell,'' said president of the Bermuda company, Mr. Danesh Varma. "Bloomberg called me in the summer and I thought the situation had been corrected.'' "We've not had a prospectus for the last seven years and most of our stock is owned by our parent company, Canadian Express Ltd., the other company has been more active and is therefore more likely to have been affected,'' he continued.
Reports on the companies have been attributed to the wrong company by major financial reporting news networks for more than six months.
The case of mistaken identity between two companies has resulted in some confusion, which has primarily affected the Nevada firm, said Bloomberg. A new identification system for both companies has been established on the Bloomberg network.
Some of the Bermuda company's affiliates have interests in mining in South America, added Mr. Varma.
The Bermuda company is traded on the Montreal Stock Exchange under the symbol AXE.A.
The Nevada corporation with corporate offices in Greenbrae California, ad trades on the NASDAQ as AREE.
The fact that the Bermuda company has associations with mining companies may have added to the confusion, continued Mr. Varma.
