Fisherman helps KBB with trash can survey
Tucker has surveyed the Island to find out where more trash cans are needed.
Mr. Tucker has been working closely with Keep Bermuda Beautiful to help with their efforts in pinpointing areas that are badly littered.
He has conducted his own Island-wide survey of KBB litter bins and determined where they are needed most.
"My love of fishing takes me all over the Island looking for new fishing spots and in my travels I have become increasingly aware of the lack of proper trash receptacles in certain spots, particularly at bus shelters,'' Mr. Tucker said.
"It was quite apparent that where there are receptacles there is less of an accumulation of litter. So I know that people really do make the effort to dispose of their trash correctly.'' Past president of KBB Mr. Barry Brewer said: "Mr. Tucker came to us with his ideas and, frankly, it was a project we have wanted to do for a long time but we lacked the manpower to do it.
"He has been really helpful. From his report we estimate that there will be a need for about 50 receptacles.'' KBB has considered launching a promotion encouraging the community to "Adopt a Can''.
This idea has proved successful overseas with companies, groups and clubs sponsoring cans and keeping certain areas litter-free.
