told him to stay away from ended up with fines totally $2,550 last week.

But Curtis Hodgson, of Sandys Parish, escaped prison after Magistrate Ed King took note of his clean record on violence.

The court had heard that Hodgson went to the woman's Southampton home on September 28 -- just eight days after she had got a order banning him from going near the home.

When the woman stood in his way at the door he picked her up, swung her around and dropped her on the sofa.

When she again blocked his way to a child who was sitting in the room he again lifted her out of the way.

She tried to ring Police five times but each time Hodgson stopped her making the call.

When she managed to get through he fled but came back later only to find Police there -- Hodgson then escaped to a nearby golf course.

He came back in the early hours of the next day and a Police officer tried to arrest him.

Hogdson struggled with one officer and the pair fell into bushes and the assailant broke free as he was being handcuffed.

As the pair struggled the Police officer was scratched in the face and was bitten in the chest and on his little finger.

Hodgson escaped but was arrested after Police found him at one of the pay phones from which he had made a number of calls to the victim.

In Magistrate's Court, Hodgson pleaded guilty to all the offences.

He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months for harassing the victim by attending her house and fined $750 for assault after manhandling the victim.

He was further fined $450 for violently resisting arrest, $1,000 for causing actual bodily harm to the Policeman and $350 for escaping lawful custody.

Mr. King warned Hodgson he faced prison if he broke the court order again.
