Mullan battles the men
Summer Swim Series continued at Warwick Long Bay on Sunday.
In rough seas that pushed and pulled the swimmers both toward the beach and out to the reefs, Cash was able to stay ahead of Ronald Cowen, finishing one second in front at the finish with a time of 17 minutes, 59 seconds. Mullan finished a minute in front of her nearest female challenger in 18 minutes, 31 seconds.
"I went out fast,'' she said."I tried to stay close to Mike and Ronald. In the conditions it was hard to stay straight. I had to look up once in a while.'' Mullan has been right behind the top male competitors in all of the open water swims.
"I don't compete against the men. The ocean swims are good for endurance work. The more swimming I do, the better it is for my training.'' This weekend Mullan and other top local swimmers will compete in the pool for the Bermuda National Championships, which have also attracted a team from Canada.
