Commissioner of Prisons Ed Dyer said yesterday.

And he pledged there would be no hiccups in the prison service's rehabilitation programmes while a successor is appointed.

Dr. Binns recently resigned after 10 years in the prison service to pursue other professional avenues.

In addition to clinical evaluation of prisoners, he was responsible for co-ordinating rehab programmes throughout the prison system.

But Dr. Dyer said: "The rehabilitation will not come to a halt because Dr.

Binns isn't there.

"His absence will mean there isn't a co-ordinator -- but the programme can run itself.'' He added that a replacement would probably be appointed very quickly because the prison service had already advertised and interviewed for what would have been a second psychologist to work with Dr. Binns.
