weekend by the Progressive Labour Party.

About 50 people, including party and branch officers and members of the parliamentary group, turned out to discuss tactics.

Saturday's conference was held at the PLP's headquarters, Alaska Hall.

Yesterday PLP leader Mr. Frederick Wade said the Budget and the general election dominated discussion.

"We had a chance to discuss the economy, and were able to further formulate our stance on the Budget debate.'' Mr. Wade was reluctant to "pre-empt'' the debate by revealing details.

But he said the importance of the coming Budget to the Country was underlined.

"The position that Government takes with the Budget is going to be important in how we are going to manipulate the economy out of recession and into growth.'' Bermuda's position to launch itself once the United States economy burst into life also came under discussion.

"The tourism ills we are suffering are not based entirely on the recession.

We have to get our act together,'' said Mr. Wade.

"We are looking at how the Government positions the Country with this Budget.'' On the election front, Mr. Wade said the PLP was determined to keep up its guard.

The next "window of opportunity'' for the Premier the Hon. Sir. John Swan was April, May and June, he added.

"We have to keep our engine running as a party,'' he said.
